The Best Hat Store specializes in services of customizing and shaping hats for men and women.
Straw hats can be kept clean and fresh looking much longer if they are brushed regularly with a brim brush or an ordinary whisk broom. They can be cleaned using a damp sponge with non-detergent soap and lukewarm water. Then let it dry naturally.
Felt hats should be brushed regularly with a brim brush to remove dust and dirt. Starting on the left side of the hat brush counter clockwise around, brushing the crown and brim in the same direction. On the underside of the brim, brush clockwise.
Sometimes, a hat may lose it’s shape due to mishandling, heat or moisture but this can usually be addressed by one of us here at the Best Hat Store. We can “reblock” the hat which means the hat is placed in a shaping block and they steam it back into the correct shape. If you only need to reshape the hat slightly, such as change the curve of the brim, you can come in the store and have us steam shape your hat into the desired configuration.
Below is a list of terms that your hat may need during its life. Please read the following terms so you will understand how to order the exact services you want.
Tune-up – Refreshing the original shape of the hat.
Stretch – If your hat has become a bit tight, we can stretch it up to a half size (1/4″) to restore the original size. For bigger stretches, see Reblock/Resize below.
Reshape – Changing the original shape. We do not perform this service.
Surface Cleaning – A “light cleaning,” a dry scrubbing of surface dirt. Soaked stains and difficult surface stains require a deep cleaning.
Deep Cleaning – A “heavy cleaning,” a wet, chemical cleaning down into the fur felt. Removes most surface dirt and embedded stains, although some old and stubborn stains may not entirely disappear.
Reblock/Resize – We can resize a good quality hat a maximum of one size larger or smaller. This involves removing the sweatband, placing the hat on a sizing block, and installing a new sweatband.
Added Features – We can add a new sweatband, hatband, liner, bound brim edge, brim lacing, cowhide brim, etc.
New Sweatband – Hat must be clean to install a new sweatband. Old sweatband is removed, hat is reblocked on sizing block, brim is pressed flat, new fine leather sweatband installed, and hat is reshaped.
New Liner – An easy process simply requiring removal of old liner and installation of new fine satin liner.
